Deron Williams not ruling out return, but has to be right for family

At 33 years old, Deron Williams is in basketball limbo; the three-time All-Star hasn't hung up his sneakers for good, but he isn't exactly in a rush to leave his family in Dallas to resume his playing career.

The Dallas Mavericks waived Williams in February last season, allowing him to join the Finals-bound Cleveland Cavaliers. It wasn't his slipping statistical production that proved to be the heaviest burden for Williams, however, but the distance from his wife and children back in Texas, he told Bleacher Report's Gerald Narciso

"I really didn't like being in Cleveland away from my family, even for the four months that I was there," said Williams. "I need them in my everyday life for me to function right. I'm not interested in doing that either, so that's why I'm not on a team right now."

With a daughter in high school and a son diagnosed with autism, Williams is hesitant to uproot or leave his family for an entire season. Still, if the perfect situation came along, Williams would entertain a comeback.

"I'm still young," Williams said. "I still love basketball. I'm definitely still staying in shape. Just in case something happens, and the right situation comes along - that's a big 'if' right now."

Other than proximity to his family, Williams wouldn't need much from a potential employer.

"I feel like I can adapt to anything," he explained. "I would like to play more than 10 minutes a game. Like I said, I never wanted to be a guy who plays eight minutes a game and is stuck on the bench, so I've made enough money, there's other things that I could be doing."
