Schroder suffered ankle injury vs. Nets, won't play Monday

Dennis Schroder will miss time, but doesn't expect to be out for long.

The Atlanta Hawks point guard suffered a left ankle sprain and has been ruled out of Monday's game against the Miami Heat, the team announced.

Schroder exited Sunday's 116-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets late in the fourth quarter after he stepped on Caris LeVert's foot. He avoided putting weight on his own foot as he was helped to the locker room.

The German floor general doesn't expect the knock to keep him out for long, though, saying the X-ray showed the injury is "nothing serious" and that he's aiming to return Thursday against the Chicago Bulls.

"That's my plan, I don't know how it works out," the 24-year-old said postgame, as quoted by Adam Zagoria of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Let the team try to win the game in Miami and then we going to see day by day."

Schroder's on pace for a career year, putting up 23.3 points, 6.7 dimes, and 1.7 steals in his first season as the No. 1 option on the team.

Backup Malcolm Delaney figures to start in his stead and see extended minutes given the team's lack of depth at the position.
