Cousins wins offseason Community Assist Award
DeMarcus Cousins has been recognized for his community work over the past several months, winning the inaugural NBA Cares Offseason Community Assist Award.
The New Orleans Pelicans big man spent the offseason hosting basketball camps and organizing free block parties in Sacramento and Birmingham, donating money to build an outdoor basketball facility in his hometown of Mobile, Ala., and visiting orphaned youth and hosting a basketball clinic in Johannesburg while participating in the NBA Africa Game.
"Giving back to those in need is something that has always been a big part of my life," Cousins said. "The NBA has given me a unique platform that helps me connect with the people I really care about in the community. I am so thankful for this recognition and extremely blessed to have the opportunity to touch people’s lives."
The award will be presented to Cousins in an on-court ceremony before Friday's game against the Golden State Warriors.
