Jameer Nelson penned a heartfelt letter to his former Nuggets teammates, coaches, and the city of Denver after the franchise opted to waive the 13-year veteran Thursday.

After spending his first 10 seasons as Dwight Howard's runningmate on the Orlando Magic, Nelson made 23 appearances with the Mavericks and six with the Celtics before finally settling in Denver midway through the 2014-15 season.

As a key veteran presence for the rebuilding Nuggets, Nelson averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 assists in 148 games for the franchise. With lottery picks invested in point guard Emmanuel Mudiay and combo guard Jamal Murray, Denver opted to waive the 35-year-old playmaker in favor of adding recently waived veteran wing Richard Jefferson.
