Sometimes the best news is no news at all.

That was the case Wednesday night when Gordon Hayward underwent surgery in Boston on his fractured left tibia and dislocated ankle.

"Things went perfectly in the surgery," his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told the Boston Herald's Mark Murphy on Thursday, adding that there were no unexpected complications. "The good news, though, is that there's nothing they found that they didn't expect to find."

Bartelstein noted the tests revealed a "clean break," and minimal damage outside of that to Hayward's left leg, which the Boston Celtics small forward injured badly on a fall just minutes into Tuesday's season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Though there's no timetable for his return, his agent thinks it's unlikely his client will return this season, with their focus now shifting to his rehab.

"It's a long process. He feels great that the surgery was successful," he said.

Hayward's wife, Robyn, echoed that sentiment on Instagram following the operation, noting the 27-year-old All-Star "did great" and "all is well."
