Always leave 'em hanging.

Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Monday morning that LeBron James' status for Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Boston Celtics is still up in the air, according to The Athletic's Jason Lloyd.

Lue did add that he is preparing as if LeBron will play, however.

The coach has been saying since last week that The King's sore left ankle could possibly keep him out of the NBA lid-lifter. James sat out Cleveland's last preseason game.

An opener without James would subtract drama from the highly-anticipated matchup against former Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving. The main piece Irving was traded to Boston for, Isaiah Thomas, is out indefinitely with a hip injury.

Managing LeBron's rest has become more of a process as he's gotten older. James turns 33 in December, and already has 1,061 games over 15 years on his NBA odometer. He's never missed more than 13 contests in any season.
