New Orleans Pelicans guard Rajon Rondo will miss four-to-six weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery Monday, the team confirmed.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Friday's preseason loss to the Thunder.

Rondo was expected to be the primary ball-handler in the Pelicans' unorthodox starting five, which features two traditional bigs in Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, as well as another point guard in Jrue Holiday.

With Rondo on the shelf, Holiday will re-assume initiation duties for a team that was already lacking depth.
