Report: Len signs Suns' $4.2M qualifying offer

His new contract figure may be lower than he'd expected, but hopefully the Phoenix Suns didn't entirely steal Alex Len's sunshine.

As expected, the restricted-free-agent center reportedly signed his $4.2-million qualifying offer tendered by the Suns earlier this year, league sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

Len and the Suns had until Oct. 16, the day before the start of the regular season, to agree to an extension. As Len discovered, however, no other teams were inclined to tender him an offer sheet at a higher figure. By signing the qualifying offer, Len will be able to enter free agency again next summer - as an unrestricted free agent.

In four seasons since being drafted No. 5 overall in 2013, the 7-foot-1 Ukrainian has averaged 6.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks, but has often struggled to hold on to a starting role despite ample opportunity. With a one-year "show me" contract, Len will hope to re-establish his value and attract a significant long-term contract, either with the Suns or elsewhere.
