Dante Cunningham will return to the New Orleans Pelicans on a one-year, $2.3-million contract, sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

The reported deal puts an end to an apparent battle between the Pelicans and the Minnesota Timberwolves for Cunningham's services. New Orleans needed the forward back after discovering Solomon Hill will be out of action for six-to-eight months.

Despite heavy interest from those two teams - along with the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors, according to Charania - Cunningham is coming out on the short end financially. The 30-year-old opted out of the final year of his contract in the spring, which was was worth $3.1 million. His new deal reportedly comes in $800,000 lower.

Cunningham has averaged 6.1 points over 578 NBA games with five teams, but shot a career-high 39.2 percent from deep last season.
