Report: Lakers, Bogut agree to 1-year contract

Andrew Bogut is going Hollywood.

The former No. 1 overall pick has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $2.3 million, his agent told The Vertical's Shams Charania.

It had been previously been reported that four teams were interested in bringing him aboard, but the Lakers weren't one of them. The Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, and Milwaukee Bucks were all linked to the Aussie big man.

The Lakers were enamored with the fact that Bogut knew Luke Walton's systems, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, as he had previously worked with the head coach during their days with the Golden State Warriors. The team is also in desperate need of some added rim protection after finishing the 2016-17 season ranked 28th (3.9) in that department.

Both Brook Lopez and 20-year-old Ivica Zubac are currently slotted in at the five spot for Los Angeles, with Bogut adding some insurance at the end of the bench. His role will likely be paltry in comparison to those two, especially after coming off a fractured left tibia that ended his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers after a single minute of action.

The now 32-year-old is fully recovered from that injury.

The 2017-18 campaign marks Bogut's 13th in the Association, with the Lakers being his fifth stop (Cleveland, Golden State, Milwaukee, and the Dallas Mavericks). He averaged three points, 8.4 rebounds, and a block across 26 appearances last season with Dallas.
