Tyler Zeller's run in Beantown is coming to an end.

The Boston Celtics announced Sunday they've requested waivers on the backup center.

Boston presumably let the 27-year-old go in order to clear some cap space, as the club tries to make a free-agent splash. The Celtics hosted unrestricted free agent Gordon Hayward earlier in the day.

Zeller joined the C's three years ago in a three-team swap from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He inked a two-year deal last summer, and would've been guaranteed $8 million if he remained on the roster past Sunday.

The big man was serviceable in his reserve role, averaging 7.1 points, four rebounds, and an assist in 15.4 minutes off the bench over the last three years with the Celtics.
