Jeff Van Gundy will coach USA Basketball's team of non-NBA players in their bid to qualify for the 2019 World Cup, reports The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Van Gundy, who has 11 years of experience as an NBA head coach and is currently working as an ESPN analyst, will lead a group filled with D-League players and Americans playing overseas.

Beginning this August, Team USA will compete in the FIBA AmeriCup and then the FIBA Americas World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Duke bench boss Mike Krzyzewski has coached the senior men's national team for more than three decades, with last summer's gold-medal run in Rio marking his last hurrah. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will succeed him, taking the reins starting at the 2019 World Cup in China.
