Chris Paul will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, as the point guard told the Los Angeles Clippers he'll decline his option for next season, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes and Jeff Goodman.

Free agency begins at midnight ET on July 1.

On Friday, a report also broke that teammate Blake Griffin had opted out of the final year of his deal. The Clippers have long been expecting their top two players to be unrestricted free agents this summer, as both Paul and Griffin had early termination options.

Paul, unlike Griffin, is eligible to sign a "super-max contract" with the Clippers worth more than $210 million over five years. The 32-year-old could also court interest from teams such as the San Antonio Spurs, however.

Paul and Griffin have overseen by far the most successful period in Clippers history, which includes the franchise's beginnings as the Buffalo Braves in the 1970s.
