The Washington Wizards are hoping to add some much-needed depth ahead of the June 22 draft.

The New Orleans Pelicans have traded point guard Tim Frazier to the Wizards in exchange for the No. 52 pick in the 2017 draft, according to Basketball Insiders' Michael Scotto.

Frazier, 26, is coming off his finest pro season to date, averaging 7.1 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game over 65 appearances for the Pelicans.

With usual starting point guard Jrue Holiday unavailable to start the 2016-17 season, Frazier was able to put up career-best individual numbers. Through 30 contests, he averaged 10.8 points, 7.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 39.2 percent on 3-point attempts.

But upon Holiday's return, Frazier fell out of the Pelicans' rotation, with only sporadic appearances until the February trade for DeMarcus Cousins thinned out the backcourt.

Frazier will presumably be the primary backup to John Wall, filling the Wizards' crucial need for depth. The likes of Trey Burke, Brandon Jennings, Marcus Thornton, and rookie Tomas Satoransky each filled backup guard duties at times, displaying varying degrees of ineffectiveness as primary distributors.

To the Pelicans' end, they will receive a token draft pick, but more importantly, a $2.1 million trade exception that will give them a sliver of flexibility in their attempt to re-sign Holiday, an unrestricted free agent.
