San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina has agreed to sign a two-year extension with the franchise after his current contract expires at the end of June, a league source told Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.
Messina joined the Spurs organization in 2014, and has served as a key member of Gregg Popovich's coaching staff over the past three seasons.
The 57-year-old reportedly interviewed for the Kings' head coaching job last summer before Sacramento hired Dave Joerger.
Messina served as San Antonio's acting head coach for two games during the 2015-16 season after Popovich was forced to leave the team due to a family emergency.
