Hornets select Malik Monk with No. 11 pick

With the 11th pick in Thursday's NBA draft, the Charlotte Hornets selected Kentucky guard Malik Monk.

Monk was sensational in his freshman year at Kentucky, averaging 19.8 points per game as the team's first option. He established himself as an elite scorer at the collegiate level early on when he dropped 47 points on UNC to set the freshman scoring record at Kentucky.

Monk projects as a combo guard at the pro level. His ability to shoot off the dribble makes him an ideal creator off the high pick-and-roll, but he can also play off the ball and space the floor like a traditional shooting guard. An apt comparable to Monk's game is Lou Williams.

However, the diminutive Monk is undersized for his position. The 6-foot-3 guard will likely struggle to get his shot off against bigger defenders, and his slight frame might render him as a defensive liability on any positions outside of point guard.
