Nets select Jarrett Allen with No. 22 pick

With the 22nd pick in Thursday's NBA draft, the Brooklyn Nets selected Texas center Jarrett Allen.

The 19-year-old freshman averaged 13.4 points on 57.9 percent shooting from the field to go along with 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 32.1 minutes per outing for the 11-22 Longhorns in his lone collegiate season.

Allen has good size for a big man - he stands 6-foot-11, weighs 235 pounds, and has a 7-foot-5 wingspan - and possesses large hands and quick feet to boot. A traditional back-to-the-basket center, he does most of his damage in the low post, where he shoots 68 percent. The Austin native capitalizes on his above-average quickness running rim to rim and finishing pick-and-rolls.

Unfortunately, Allen's greatest strength exacerbates one of his most glaring weaknesses. Despite his stature, Allen lacks strength and aggression, while both his focus and basketball IQ have come into question. His shot needs work, as he scored at a 56.4 percent clip from the free-throw line and an atrocious 35 percent on jump shots.
