Cavs set franchise playoff records for points in quarter, half

The Cleveland Cavaliers apparently still haven't run out of switches to flip.

The Cavs have had some pretty good offenses over the years, and they've had some pretty memorable playoff performances, particularly in the LeBron James era. But in its 47 years of existence, 21 playoff appearances, and 201 playoff games, the franchise had never had a quarter, or a half, quite like they did to open Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

The Cavs hung 43 points on the Celtics in the first quarter, setting a franchise record for points in any quarter of a postseason game. Here's what it looked like:

They followed that up with 32 points in the second quarter, bringing their first-half total to 75, another franchise record. It was also the most points any team has scored in the first half of a playoff game since the Dallas Mavericks dropped 83 on the Sacramento Kings back in 2003.

The Cavs closed the half shooting 58.5 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 81 percent (17-of-21) from the line.

Unsurprisingly, James led the way for Cleveland, pouring in 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, to go along with seven assists. More surprisingly, Deron Williams came roaring off the bench to pitch in 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 13 minutes.
