The Orlando Magic, in search of some winning insight from their next president of basketball operations, reportedly recently asked permission to talk to Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin about the vacancy, but are still waiting by the phone.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has been "unresponsive" to the request, reports The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, citing league sources.

Griffin's contract expires at the end of June, and sources said Cleveland hasn't made a substantive offer to retain him. Most people who have worked for Gilbert "believe that he has increasingly devalued the position of GM in his mind," Wojnarowski writes, with Gilbert expecting he can promote an internal candidate and pay them less - the way he replaced Chris Grant and Danny Ferry.

Despite orchestrating a Cavaliers roster that could win a third consecutive Eastern Conference title by next Tuesday, Griffin reportedly makes much less than his highest-paid peers.
