Upset City: Tuesday became a night for underdogs

Since the days of Bill Russell's Boston Celtics, the NBA has been a league filled with predictability.

While upsets aren't unthinkable, the average fan can often pick the nightly winners with remarkable accuracy.

However, the league appeared to turn upside down on Tuesday night, with the Los Angeles Clippers (-10.5 favorite), Cleveland Cavaliers (-7.0), and San Antonio Spurs (-12.5) all losing to heavy underdog opponents as part of an evening where all six games on the schedule were won by the lesser team. According to ESPN's Ben Alamar, the odds of the Clippers, Cavs, and Spurs all losing was less than one percent.

While Cleveland's loss can be chalked up to the career performance of Giannis Antetokounmpo, both the Spurs and Clippers' losses were nearly inexplicable.

Los Angeles allowed a gang of misfits from Brooklyn to hang 127 on them, while the Spurs lost at home to an Orlando Magic squad that entered Tuesday with the league's worst offense.

Although it's far too extreme to consider Tuesday's events a sign of things to come, commissioner Adam Silver appears to be slightly closer to his goal of league-wide parity.
