Celtics waive R.J. Hunter, retain James Young

The Boston Celtics waived swingman R.J. Hunter on Monday after handing their 15th roster spot to James Young, the team announced.
Both Hunter and Young were available for a second-round pick, Wojnarowski noted Saturday, but no team apparently met their price. That meant the Celtics had to shed one of them as rosters league-wide trimmed down to 15 on Monday.
The Celtics drafted Hunter 28th overall in 2015. He struggled mightily as a rookie, averaging just 2.7 points, but the 6-foot-7 swingman profiles as a talented offensive wing with 3-point range.
