Lakers' Lou Williams: Draws start in final preseason game
Williams drew the start at shooting guard in Friday's 98-94 preseason loss to the Suns, scoring eight points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds, an assist, three steals and a block over 21 minutes.
Analysis:
It's not yet known whether head coach Luke Walton will have Williams open up the season in the starting five over Jordan Clarkson, but neither made a very encouraging case in the preseason finale. Williams finishes the exhibition slate with four straight single-digit scoring outings after averaging nearly 17 points per game over the first trio of contests, and has shot just 9-for-30 in his recent lackluster stretch. Regardless of Walton's decision, both Williams and Clarkson figure to see plenty of playing time in the backcourt rotation in the coming season.
