Report: Only $100K guaranteed in Stephenson deal
Lance Stephenson will have to prove his worth in preseason if he hopes to land a spot on the New Orleans Pelicans' roster this season.
Of Stephenson's $1.22-million contract with the Pelicans, only $100,000 is actually guaranteed, The Vertical's Adrian Wojanarowski reports, citing sources.
While Stephenson is undoubtedly a talented player, his antics have been a cause for concern throughout his career, potentially a reason why he's struggled to stick with one team for long over the past few seasons.
The 26-year-old spent time with both the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies last season, averaging 8.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.6 steals over 69 games. The Grizzlies declined Stephenson's $9.4-million team option prior to free agency.
With Jrue Holiday set to miss time while his wife undergoes brain surgery and Tyreke Evans' return still unknown, New Orleans may be forced to turn to Stephenson at point guard to begin the 2016-17 campaign.
