DETROIT - Former Michigan State basketball player Keith Appling is in trouble again with police.
Detroit police say Appling was arrested Sunday night after he drove away from a traffic stop. Sgt. Mike Woody says a gun was found in a bag on the side of the road.
It's Appling's third encounter with Detroit-area police since spring. Gun charges are pending in two separate cases in Dearborn and Detroit.
Defense attorney Cyril Hall's phone rang unanswered Monday morning. An email seeking comment wasn't immediately returned.
The 24-year-old Appling played for Michigan State from 2010-2014 and had two brief contracts with the Orlando Magic last season.
