Hawks' Dennis Schroder: Won't play for Germany this summer

Schroder won't play for his native Germany this summer, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis:

The German national team didn't qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but the team was set to compete in qualifying play in August for EuroBasket 2017. Schroder said he still intends to suit up for Germany in the 2020 Olympics if the team qualifies, but for now, the 22-year-old will turn his attention to getting ready for the upcoming season with the Hawks. After serving as a backup to Jeff Teague in his first three NBA campaigns, Schroder is set to ascend to a starting role in 2016-17 and should be in line for a big jump in production after averaging 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 steals across 20.3 minutes per game last season.
