Clippers' Wesley Johnson: Re-ups with Clippers on three-year pact

Johnson re-signed Saturday with the Clippers on a three-year, $18 million contract, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

Johnson's re-signing seems to indicate that the Clippers are out of the running to land the top prize on the free-agent market, Kevin Durant, so the well-traveled former No. 4 overall pick will give the team some insurance on the wing. With Paul Pierce's performance taking a steep downturn last season and retirement this offseason a possibility, Johnson currently looks like the team's top candidate to start at small forward, but look for the Clippers to further address that position through free agency or a trade. Regardless of how it plays out, the 28-year-old Johnson should at least be a rotation piece for the Clippers after averaging 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.2 three-pointers and 1.1 steals across 20.8 minutes per game in 80 appearances last season.
