Report: Trail Blazers pursuing Pau Gasol
The Portland Trail Blazers have their sights set on an anchor for their frontcourt.
The team is "aggressively pursuing" free agent center Pau Gasol, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports, citing sources.
The 35-year-old doesn't quite fit the timeline of Portland's young core, but he could immediately start for the Blazers. Even in his 15th season, Gasol still managed 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks per game while being named to the All-Star Game.
If the Blazers manage to land Gasol, the Spaniard would presumably slot in at center and help balance Portland's perimeter-heavy offense.
Portland would have to beat out the San Antonio Spurs, who are also interested in the two-time champion. The Spurs would give Gasol a better chance at a third ring, while the Blazers could offer significantly more money.
