The Washington Wizards have seemingly come to their senses.
CSN Midatlantic's J. Michael reported emphatically that the Wizards have no intentions of offering a maximum contract to unrestricted free-agent center Joakim Noah.
Earlier on Friday, a report from Mitch Lawrence of The Sporting News suggested that the Wizards had shifted their free-agency sights to the longtime Chicago Bulls center and were willing to offer a maximum contract.
Noah's resume includes two All-Star appearances, an All-NBA First Team nod, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and three appearances on the All-Defense teams.
However, at the age of 31 and coming off two shoulder surgeries, offering Noah a maximum contract starting at $26 million would be a tough sell. He only made 29 appearances last season and scored 4.3 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting from the floor. Noah's due for a bounceback campaign, but there are lingering questions about his durability and offensive output.
The Wizards also already have an effective starting center in Marcin Gortat already in place.
