Report: Knicks' Arron Afflalo to opt out of deal
Arron Afflalo's lackluster run in The Big Apple appears set to come to an end.
The 30-year-old guard will opt out of his $8-million player option with the New York Knicks and become an unrestricted free agent, sources told The Associated Press' Michael Scotto.
Last summer, Afflalo signed a two-year, $16-million contract, with the expectation being that he'd step into the starting lineup and provide defense in the backcourt paired with a solid outside shooting touch.
While he did start 57 of the 71 games he appeared in, former interim head coach Kurt Rambis demoted Afflalo to the bench late in the campaign in favor of Sasha Vujacic because of a "front-office consensus."
Rambis affirmed he had a conversation with Afflalo to discuss the demotion. However, Afflalo told reporters that wasn't the case.
Afflalo averaged 12.8 points on 44.3 percent shooting, 3.7 rebounds, and two assists in 33.4 minutes for the 32-50 Knicks, who missed the playoffs for the third year in a row.
Forward Derrick Williams will also opt out of his deal, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
