Ryan Preece: Dover Exit due to Team Error

The fire in Preece's Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse at Dover Motor Speedway was the result of a mistake by the No. 41 team. Incorrectly installed bolts caused smoke in the driver's compartment, forcing Preece's early retirement, Racer.com reports.

Analysis:

The curiosity of this incident now becomes clearer after some investigation. The team could not figure out during the race at Dover why Preece's driver compartment was filling with smoke. He was forced to retire early from the AdventHealth 400. It turns out that incorrectly installed bolts where causing the problems around the exhaust headers. The team will have to correct this problem going forward to avoid another self-inflicted DNF for Preece.
