NASCAR to hold race events without fans in attendance

With most sports leagues suspending play due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NASCAR announced that its race events will continue as scheduled but without fans in attendance, according to Jessica Kleinschmidt of NBC Sports.

"At this time, NASCAR will hold its race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway without fans in attendance," the press release read. "These events will be restricted to competitors, crews, officials and other necessary personnel to conduct the race. We will work with public health officials as we determine future scheduling beyond these events."

The Ultimate Tailgating 200 is set to take place Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, with the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Race scheduled to go the following Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The news comes in the wake of the NBA, NHL, and MLS all opting to suspend regular-season play. Elsewhere, MLB is reportedly expected to suspend all operations and delay Opening Day, while the NFL is reportedly discussing potential shutdowns during its offseason.
