Darrell Wallace Jr. wins Truck race at Martinsville Speedway
Darrell Wallace Jr. will put another grandfather clock inside his trophy case after winning Saturday’s Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway.
The race saw plenty of cautions, but with seven laps to go on the final restart, Wallace was able to steer clear of any incidents on the track and grab the checkered flag.
Wallace ditched his usual No. 54 for the No. 34 this weekend, in honor of NASCAR Hall of Famer Wendell Scott.
Scott, a Virginia native, is the only black driver to win a race in (what is now known as) the Sprint Cup Series.
The Scott family was in attendance for Saturday’s race, making it even more memorable for Wallace.
“With the Wendell Scott family here, this is a special moment,” the 21-year-old driver said. “It’s a true honor to have Wendell Scott’s name on our Toyota Tundra.”
Points leader Matt Crafton finished third, and holds an 18-point lead over second place Ryan Blaney. Wallace sits in third spot, 22 points back.
With three races left in the season, up next for the Truck Series is Texas Motor Speedway on October 21.
