Jimmie Johnson is dropping his usual blue and white for a bit of red.
The No. 48 Lowe’s Red Vest Chevrolet SS will debut at next weekend’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. According to Lowe's, the scheme celebrates the chain's employees, who typically wear red vests.
"I know what the red vest means to everyone at Lowe's,” Johnson said. “That's why I'm proud to have red on my car at Texas. I want to show Lowe’s 260,000 employees that this is for them."
The AAA Texas 500 will be Johnson’s first race as a non-Chase driver after he was eliminated from the playoffs Sunday at Talladega.
