After a 5th place finish at Talladega on Sunday, Ryan Newman’s car failed post-race inspection.

NASCAR found his car too low on both sides of the rear of the car, and have taken his car back to the NASCAR Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C.

NASCAR Senior Director of Communications Kerry Tharp said that if any penalties were to come down on the No. 31 team, they’d be announced on Tuesday.

If Newman is penalized more than 27 points, Richard Childress Racing would be able to appeal the ruling. If they lose the appeal, Newman may find himself out of the Chase, bringing Kasey Kahne back in.
