Kurt Busch is the first Chase driver to make a crucial mistake at Chicagoland Speedway.
During the first round of pit stops under green flag conditions, Busch was entering pit road a bit too fast, tried to slow down, then ended up spinning out and hitting the commitment cone.
NASCAR penalized Busch for a commitment line violation, and ordered him to serve a pass through penalty.
“Sorry about that,” Busch said on his radio. “That is not what we needed.”

Busch headed back out onto the track one lap down in 36th place.
