Chase Elliott: Phoenix Penalty Announced
NASCAR penalized each of Hendrick Motorsports' four Cup Series teams, along with the No. 31 team of Kaulig Racing, with L2-level penalties on Wednesday for unapproved parts modifications last weekend at Phoenix Raceway.
Analysis:
The news just keeps getting worse for the injured Elliott. Even though he didn't race this past week at Phoenix, his team had their hood louvers confiscated due to being an unapproved modification to a single-source part. The team was hit with a $100,000 fine, loss of 100 owner/driver points and the loss of crew chief Alan Gustafson for the next four events. This will be a huge obstacle to overcome when Elliott returns from injury later this spring.
