Almost 75 percent of Daytona 500 field involved in crashes

Forty cars began the day at the start line of the Daytona 500, but with 59 laps to go, the second massive pileup of the day occurred, sending a litany of cars onto the infield.

Then, Joey Gase went off the track, meaning almost three-quarters of the field had been involved in a crash.

First it was Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch being knocked out, with Busch blaming his sponsor Goodyear for the crash. Then Jimmie Johnson and Danica Patrick headlined the first large crash of the day, followed by a three-car pileup minutes after the Johnson-Patrick crash was cleared.
