UFC commentator Jon Anik will be more careful about publicly betting on fights in the future.
On Tuesday, Anik said on his own podcast that he was so confident that Conor McGregor would win at UFC 196 that he would get a "209" tattoo if Nate Diaz found a way to beat him. 209 is the area code of Diaz's hometown, Stockton, Calif.
Diaz submitted McGregor with a rear-naked choke in the second round of the main event, and he recalled Anik's words as the post-fight press conference wrapped up.
"Yo, yo, yo, Jon Anik better get a motherf--kin' 209 tattoo or I'm going to whoop his little ass," said Diaz.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Diaz softened his stance.
"I'm just kidding," said Diaz, according to Anton Tabuena of Bloody Elbow. "Jon Anik, you ain't got to get no tattoo."
Let's hope Anik got the message, since by the time the presser started, he had already tweeted that he was ready to pay up:
Looking for the finest tattoo artist in South Florida. All hail Nate Diaz. Honored to pay tribute to the Diaz bros. & an all-time great win.
