David versus Goliath might as well be renamed Fedor Emelianenko versus Jaideep Singh.
Emelianenko will take on Singh in his return fight on New Year's Eve in Tokyo, Rizin Fighting Federation announced in a news conference.
The Russian heavyweight hasn't fought in an MMA ring since June 2013.
Singh, 28, had been rumored to be atop the list of candidates to fight Emelianenko, but that buzz had appeared to fizzle - until now.
The 39-year-old Emelianenko (34-4) is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history. Singh has extensive experience as a kickboxer, where he racked up 40 wins in 51 contests, but has only two MMA fights under his belt. He won both via TKO.
