Gleison Tibau suspended after failing drug test
One of the longest-tenured UFC fighters isn't going to be adding to his resume anytime soon.
The UFC released a statement Friday announcing that lightweight Gleison Tibau has been provisionally suspended after failing an out-of-competition doping test conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Association.
The 32-year-old has long been recognized as having one of the most distinct physiques in all of MMA. Despite looking much larger than his weight class, Tibau has consistently made the 155-pound limit.
It's unclear whether the results of the test will affect his November win over Abel Trujillo, the 17th victory of Tibau's UFC career. His 26 Octagon appearances are more than any other lightweight, and second overall only to UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz.
Whether Tibau's failure stemmed from a positive test for banned substances, or missing the scheduled test date, was not revealed.
