Holm glad it wasn't a 'lucky' punch that felled Rousey

Holly Holm's decorated boxing career gave her one clear advantage as she stepped into the Octagon opposite the seemingly unstoppable Ronda Rousey at UFC 193: She had grown accustomed to being hit in the face.

According to the newly-minted champion, it was the mantra of her training camp. Holm had gone through years and years of absorbing punches, while Rousey, a judoka, hadn't faced comparable fistic-firepower during her illustrious career.

"I just feel that the more I hit her, the more frustrated she would get," Holm told FOX Sports, according to Damon Martin. "My team kept telling me during training camp 'Holly, she's not used to getting hit, she's not used to feeling what that feels like. You've been in battles before. You've been hit. You've had to fight with an eye swollen shut so you can't see. You've had to fight with a broken arm. You've had to fight with a broken nose. You've had to fight with a bloody lip. You've had to fight with a bloody nose. You've had to fight with a cut before - and she's not used to that.

"It's (an) unfamiliar and uncomfortable feeling for her. So you just need to put your hands on her and put your feet on her and just really impose your will on her.'"

A heavy underdog, Holm looked terrifyingly calm during her six-minute dissection of Rousey, roasting the former champion with pin-point strikes, while playing matador to Rousey's foolishly wild advances. Just under a minute into the second stanza, Holm put an exclamation point on one of the biggest upsets ever authored, separating Rousey from her senses with a vicious head kick.

"I am glad that it wasn't just a 'lucky' punch," Holm said. "I'm glad that it was this whole kind of domination."
