Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza says he's next in line for title shot after win over Romero
Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza is growing impatient.
Since coming over to the UFC from Strikeforce in 2013, Souza has carved out a path of destruction through the middleweight division, racking up a 5-0 record, with four of those wins coming via submission or TKO.
Souza has been on the precipice of a title shot for what seems like months now, and if he's able to triumph over Yoel Romero at UFC 194 in December, he's going to hunt down UFC president Dana White to make sure he's granted a shot at gold.
"(Luke) Rockhold sure cut the line, he wasn't supposed to be next," Jacare told Combate, according to BloodyElbow.com's Lucas Rezende. "My title shot is long overdue, my friend. Here's the deal, in case I beat Romero, which is what will happen, I'm going after Dana. I can't go after the matchmaker, because Joe Silva is too small. Dana is a bit bigger. I'm next. I don't care who wins or loses the next title fight. I want to beat Romero, a really tough guy. I will defeat him and I will be next."
With Rockhold set to face Chris Weidman in December with the middleweight crown hanging in the balance, Souza doesn't necessarily care who escapes UFC 194 with the title, though he wouldn't mind a chance to avenge an earlier loss to Rockhold when they were both under the Strikeforce umbrella.
"I only think about getting the belt," Souza said. "It doesn't matter if it will be from Luke or Chris. What I want is to be the champion. That Rockhold fight is long gone, but it would be good to have the opportunity to fight him again. I asked for that fight several times back in Strikeforce, I don't know why it never happened."
