Lavar Johnson in jail after alleged assault of his girlfriend
Former UFC, Strikeforce, and Bellator veteran Lavar Johnson has been in Fresno County Jail since Aug. 25 after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, according to MMAjunkie.com.
Johnson plead not guilty to multiple charges, including assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, dissuading a witness by force, and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. He allegedly threw his girlfriend against the wall and ground, repeatedly kneed her in the head, and punched her in the face 11 times, as originally reported by TMZ Sports.
Johnson's girlfriend reportedly needed staples to close one of her wounds.
A 10-year veteran of MMA, Johnson last appeared in the cage at Bellator 123 in September of last year, losing to Cheick Kongo via first-round rear-naked choke.
Overall, Johnson posted a 18-10 record over his career, notching a 2-2 record in his yearlong stint under the UFC umbrella.
