Oliveira injured his neck training, thought he'd be fine against Holloway
Sunday's featherweight matchup between Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway was unfortunately cut short when "do Bronx" suffered a neck injury shooting for a takedown.
Apparently, Oliveira had a pre-existing neck injury heading into the pivotal bout, but didn't think it would be an issue after undergoing physical therapy.
"I injured my neck in training, but did physical therapy and thought everything was fine," Oliveira told MMAFighting.com's Guilherme Cruz, "but when I fell against the cage everything went numb, I couldn't feel my body."
Oliveira still hasn't been released from the hospital after being transferred there immediately following the bout.
"I trained really hard for this fight," Oliveira said. "I would like a rematch because there was no fight. I got injured literally the first time I attacked."
