Lawler's plans for MacDonald: 'Get in Rory's face and get a knockout'

No one is ever going to accuse Robbie Lawler of talking his way into a fight.

The UFC welterweight champion doesn't like to engage in promotional gum flappery before an event, and would rather let his nuclear warhead-laced fists do the talking for him.

As such, Lawler is more than happy to let Conor McGregor almost single-handedly sell UFC 189 while "Ruthless" focuses on defending his title in a rematch against Rory MacDonald.

"It's just business as usual," Lawler told MMAjunkie.com. "If I had to carry the show, I'd do that. But I'm just going go out there and be me, get in Rory's face and get a knockout. I don't really concentrate on the promotion as much, I'm just going to be me."

Lawler squeaked past MacDonald via split-decision during their first meeting at UFC 167 in the later stages of 2013. The victory thrust Lawler into the 170-pound title picture, and he captured the belt a little more than a year later.

"I respect everyone in the cage, but it's all about me going out there and showcasing what I'm capable of and all the hard work that I've put in," Lawler said. "In the last seven months I've grown as a fighter. I've continued to grow every fight and I’m going to showcase it."
