Iaquinta squeaks by Masvidal via split-decision

It looked as though Jorge Masvidal was going to cruise to a victory over Al Iaquinta, and somehow, he gave it all away.

Masvidal was thoroughly tearing up Iaquinta on the feet in the first round. Using his silky smooth technical stand up to beat the Serra-Longo product to the punch over and over. In the waning moments of the opening stanza, Masvidal floored Iaquinta with a stiff right hand, and followed it up with some heavy ground-and-pound, opening up a geyser under Iaquinta's right eye.

Instead of violently closing out Iaquinta in the second round, Masvidal did a lot of standing around, and Iaquinta likely took the frame on the judges' scorecards through volume alone.

With the fight suddenly in doubt, Iaquinta turned up the heat in round three, and out-worked, and out-landed, "Game Bred," snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Following the bout, Iaquinta took umbrage with some fans who were booing the decision.
