VIDEO: Aldo says McGregor's in 'deep sh--'; Rousey vs. Correia made official
The UFC kicked off its world tour for UFC 189 on Friday with a press conference in front of a frenzied crowd in Rio de Janeiro.
Conor McGregor played the role of villain perfectly, goading the crowd with his seemingly impossible confidence, while they booed and chanted every time he took the mic.
"I own this town," McGregor said while the crowd showered him with hate. "I own Rio de Janeiro. I'm sitting here with my feet up on the desk. What are any of you going to do about it?"
Jose Aldo, the featherweight champion who claims to be "The King" while McGregor is "The Joker," was quick to point out that Rio is his city.
"The owner of Rio? he doesn't own anything," Aldo said. "He doesn't even own Dublin. He doesn't even own Dublin. He's said a lot and done nothing."
Following McGregor's scintillating victory over Dennis Siver in January, the brash Irishman, like some sort of crazed maniac, scaled the cage and made a beeline toward Aldo. According to Aldo, it was the move of a desperate fool.
"He's a fool. He's just a fool," Aldo said to the adoring crowd. "So if he had really come up to me he wouldn't have jumped and did it, he would have come. He stood in front of the security guard to not get close to me. He just does that sort of thing to make fun.
"With me he's in deep shit."
Aside from the verbal duel between Aldo and McGregor, the rumored women's bantamweight bout between bulletproof champion Ronda Rousey and Brazilian Bethe Correia was made official for UFC 190 on Aug. 1.
Correia has been campaigning for a bout with Rousey after defeating two of her "Four Horsewomen," while Rousey is hoping to get a measure of revenge for her fallen friends.
"My dad had great saying when someone needed to be shown what's up," Rousey told MMAjunkie. "He would say that this person needs to have a come to Jesus meeting, and Bethe is going to have her own come to Jesus meeting in Brazil.
"I promised Brazilian fans I'd do whatever I could to come down here and fight. I kept my promise, and I’m happy to entertain you guys while I discipline this girl. I felt like if I'm really going to make an example out of Bethe, I don't just want to defeat her - I want her to leave that arena embarrassed, and the best way to do it is to come here and beat her in her own backyard."
