Cody McKenzie returns to MMA after 2-month retirement
It didn't take Cody McKenzie too long to figure out that he's still got some fight left in him.
After calling it quits from professional MMA in December, McKenzie has accepted a short notice fight against Andrew McInnes as the co-main event of WSOF 18: Moraes vs. Hill on Feb. 12 in Edmonton, Alberta.
"It was a pretty quick retirement," McKenzie told MMAFighting.com. "I lived off my funds as long as I could and when they ran out, sometimes you gotta come out of retirement. Even if it's (two) months later."
McKenzie was released by the UFC after a December 2013 fight against Sam Stout in which he infamously wore basketball shorts with the tags still on them. UFC president Dana White called the act UFC amateur hour, and McKenzie fought for some outside promotions, going 1-2 before his initial retirement last December.
"I just got the itch again," McKenzie said. "It's always there. I like fighting people and people kept calling me asking me to fight. I turned some down. Now I'm just at the point where I need money. Might as well take some fights."
