Jon Fitch fails pre-fight drug test taken before WSOF 16

Former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch failed his pre-fight drug test before his WSOF welterweight title match against Rousimar Palhares on Dec. 13 in Sacramento.

The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) said Friday that Fitch was flagged for what they called an adverse result following the pre-fight drug test before his fight with Palhares. The commission declined to name the specific substance Fitch was flagged for, but sources close to the fighter indicated he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, according to Steven Marrocco of MMAJunkie.

Fitch has been vocally critical of PED users in the past and even had some choice words on the subject during an interview with Carlin Bardsley of MMASucka in 2011:

I think it’s cowardly to use them. I don’t think it’s necessary, I think those that use them are weaker-minded. But I think (the UFC) should be doing more about it. I think they should pay a little greater expense to get better testing. I think blood tests would be much better rather than urine tests. They could do the blood test the week before when they do our blood medicals for HIV and Hep C.
