The UFC had said there would be ramifications for Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier after their brawl at an early-August press conference, but unless said discipline was kept private, it appears the Nevada State Athletic Commission may beat them to the punch.
The NSAC will hold a disciplinary hearing for the two light heavyweights on Sept. 23 to address the incident, which took place on Aug. 4 in Las Vegas. NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the hearing to ESPN but would not discuss any potential action.
Unfortunately for fight fans, this mostly stands as a reminder that we were supposed to be less than two weeks away from seeing the bitter enemies throw down for the UFC light heavyweight title. Instead, an injury to Jones – and a minor injury to Cormier he says he would have fought through – have caused the fight to be pushed back to UFC 182 on Jan. 3.
Just ... what, 14 more weeks? Yeah, not getting impatient at all over here.
